I finished the Quilotoa Loop, with (a bit of) walking through villages (pic)...
...and (a lot of) sitting on buses, like this one (pic). They cost $1 (about 60p) for each hour of travel, and they're great fun because lots of locals get on, often carrying interesting loads like kitchen stools or big bags of potatoes or sackfuls of miaowing cats.
The bus from Sigchos to Latacunga went along some scary roads up the sides of huge mountains (pic) overlooking sheer drops. The locals weren't scared because they do this every day. They were more worried about getting an internet connection to text their friends with their plans for tonight.
